Red Bean Brownie

You do have a sweet tooth and love to indulge in chocolatey treats or desserts like brownies but feel guilty about it? Here is a way that you can enjoy this treat for a quarter of the caloric cost (scroll to the bottom of the page for nutrition values)!


Servings: 16 squares
Difficulty: Easy
Preparation time: 30mins


  • 1 can  (398mL) or about 1 ½ cups of drained and rinsed red kidney beans
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup of sugar (can also be replaced with sugar substitute)
  • 1 tbs of vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp of vanilla extract
  • ½ cup of skim milk powder (optional for extra protein, can also be replaced with your favorite protein powder)
  • ¼ cup of cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup of all purpose flour
  • ¼ – ½ cup of crushed walnuts
  • ¼ cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips



  1. Blend red beans and eggs together until smooth
  2. Add remaining ingredients and mix together
  3. In a pan lined with parchemin paper, transfer mixture
  4. Bake at 350F for 15mins or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Enjoy!

      To replace the sugar in this brownie recipe, you can use sweeteners such as sucralose (Splenda). However, the quantity of sugar in this recipe is already reduced and every serving contains only 6.5g of sugar (vs commercial brownies that have up to 30g). So unless there are any medical issues, it is not necessary to replace the sugar in these brownies.
